Homegrown Alfalfa and a stir fry alfalfa & brocolli recipe

It all started with only a pack of Mr. Fothergill's Alfalfa seeds pack (to try out). It was so easy to sprouts. The end result (alfalfa sprouts) taste so good with sandwiches, salads or any stir fry. It's not surprising I ended up buying more alfalfa seeds- but this time organic one from Healthy Supplies.

Here are simple guide on how to sprouts with a 500 ml jar:
  1. Soak 2 tablespoon (I used Panasonic Breadmaker spoon) for minimum of 8 hours. I normally soaked the seeds in the evening just so I can rinse them in the morning
  2. Rinse to remove husk and debris
  3. Place the jar upside down in a takeaway container and cover it with tea tower.
  4. Shower them every 6 hours. I normally repeat this step for 3 - 5 days (it grows faster when we have nice sunny weather)
  5. Leave the sprouts next to kitchen window till the leaves turn green (sprouts version of suntan)

Here is a simple stir fry dish I created with the alfalfa

200 gram tender stem broccoli (blanched)
1 carrot (shredded) 
Alfalfa (mind you they shrink a little after cooking)
2 garlic (minced)
Olive Oil
Black pepper
  1. Saute garlic till brown (with olive oil)
  2. Add carrots. Stir fry for about 30 seconds (till the carrots goes soft)
  3. Mix in broccoli and stir fry for a minute or so
  4. Add in alfalfa. Mix well
  5. Season with salt and black pepper
  6. You may drizzle a little sesame oil for extra flavouring
